With her dedication and passion for craftsmanship, Joana brings each creation to life, using glass to produce jewelry, plates, and artisanal decor that are truly unique. Each piece reflects a fusion of art, innovation, and sustainability, embodying Joana’s vision of transforming recycled glass into timeless creations.
The Creation Process at Qelq – Tirana Glass Hub
Sourcing and Preparation
The creation process begins with the careful selection of recycled glass, which is sourced from various sustainable initiatives and local collections. Once the glass is chosen, it undergoes an initial cleaning and preparation phase to remove any impurities, ensuring it is ready for the next steps.
Design and Shaping
The glass is skillfully cut, shaped, or molded to fit the design’s unique specifications. Arrangements are meticulously crafted, incorporating vibrant colors, intricate patterns, or textures that will come to life during the firing process. Every detail plays a vital role in shaping the final outcome.
Firing Stage
The arranged pieces are placed into a specialized kiln, heated to temperatures up to 750°C. Here, the glass fuses, softens, or retains specific textures, depending on the desired result. Techniques like slumping, fusing, or casting are used to achieve diverse effects, with precise temperature control ensuring flawless results
Cooling and Quality Inspection
Gradual cooling stabilizes the glass, preventing stress fractures and ensuring durability. Once cooled, each piece undergoes a detailed inspection. Refinements, such as edge smoothing or surface polishing, are carried out to perfect the craftsmanship.
Final Assembly and Enhancement
The refined pieces are assembled and enhanced with thoughtful additions, such as metal accents for jewelry or supportive bases for decor items. Each creation stands as a testament to the harmony of sustainability and artistry.
